The Countdown Is On!

With two months to go before the start, the Adventure Racing World Championship 2026 is entering its final stretch. Behind the scenes and out in the field, the organising team is working at full speed to deliver an unforgettable adventure for the world’s best adventure racing teams in the heart of Corsica.

Over the past few weeks, an enormous amount of work has been completed on the ground. The technical teams have now fully reconnoitred all 12 sections of the course, validating every route, every transition area and every safety procedure. Hundreds of hours have been spent across mountains, rivers, coastline and villages to finalise a course worthy of a World Championship.

A Truly International Adventure

The momentum continues to grow. 99 teams are now officially registered, representing 30 nations from across the globe. From the United States to New Zealand, Japan to South Africa, and from all across Europe, the world’s top adventure racing athletes will gather in Corsica from 27 September to 10 October 2026.

France will naturally have the largest delegation, alongside strong teams from the United States, the United Kingdom, Spain, Canada, Belgium, Poland and many other countries.

A Collective Effort

ARWC 2026 is also a remarkable collective project. More than 25 partners are now supporting the event, alongside local authorities, institutions and businesses that are helping make this World Championship a unifying project for the whole of Corsica.

Corte and L’Île-Rousse Ready to Celebrate

Beyond the race itself, ARWC 2026 will be a true celebration. Corte and L’Île-Rousse will come alive throughout the championship with a rich programme of ceremonies, entertainment, cultural activities and community events designed to involve residents, visitors, volunteers and supporters alike.

From the Parade of Nations and the spectacular prologue to the event village, live coverage, team finishes and the Closing Ceremony, everything is being put in place to ensure everyone can experience the excitement of the Adventure Racing World Championship up close.

DIANA SALICETI, GODMOTHER OF THE ARWC 2026

Diana Saliceti is the ambassador for the 2026 Adventure Race World Championships; she shares this role with trail runner Guillaume Peretti. Born in Ajaccio, this Corsican artist grew up between the city and the wild highlands of the island’s interior. A singer, journalist, farmer, and horseback rider, in September 2026 she will be the voice of the ARWC 2026 for two fleeting moments. She embodies what the Corsicans call “u versu”: that unique way of singing with one’s whole soul. It’s a quality Diana has possessed ever since, as a child in the mountain villages, she heard the polyphonic harmonies echoing and found the singers to be superhuman.

After studying humanities and earning a master’s degree in comparative literature in Spain, Ireland, Quebec, and Corsica, the young woman began working in the media. Trained in polyphonic singing with groups such as A Scola di u Cantu and U Filu d’Amparera, she set out to create her own work: a repertoire in the Corsican language rooted in the polyphonic tradition, with a touch of modernity. The Ajaccio native competed twice in the Eurovision Contest for Minority Languages, in 2008 and 2012. And in 2015, her album *Forse* firmly established her as one of the island’s must-hear voices. In just a few years, without trying too hard, Diana Saliceti has established herself as a key figure in the island’s music scene.

Then came COVID-19. And with it, not a halt, but a new direction. The local native started an agricultural business in Porto Pollo—L’Orca Agri-cultura & Cavalli—combining olive oil production, beekeeping, and the breeding of Corsican horses, and settled permanently in this southern village, which had become the center of her life. Horses hold a special place in her life: animals of sport and spirit, companions with whom communication goes beyond words. It is through them that she reconnects with her ancestors, climbing to an altitude of 1,000 meters, where her family once spent their summers between the mountain pastures and the sky. At 38, she is working on a new album, *So Tessuta* (I Am Woven), expected by the end of the year. Woven by Corsica, her encounters, her travels, and a musical universe that embraces folk, rock, and electronic music, without ever betraying her roots.

It is this Diana whom the ARWC 2026 has invited to perform at the event’s two most symbolic moments. For the opening ceremony in Corte, she will sing “U Mio Paese” (In My Country), a song born in the mountains, inspired by the beauty of Corsica’s highlands. This choice resonates perfectly with what the 400 athletes are about to experience: entering a new land, with all the respect and humility that this entails.
For the closing ceremony, the event’s patron will offer something even more intimate: the Corsican anthem, accompanied by a small harp.
After days of hard work and sleepless nights, it will be a moment of reflection, as Corsica says thank you to those who have crossed it.

Diana Saliceti says it herself: she sees singing as a special bond with the people of her homeland. For the duration of two songs, she will also forge that bond with runners from around the world. Corsica is magic. The singer will offer something that neither the stopwatch nor the rankings can measure: the soul of a land.

CAPSULE ARWC CORSICA IS MAGIC

TEAM BELGIUM, THE ADVENTURE ABOVE ALL ELSE

There are teams that come to win. And then there’s Team Belgium. For more than thirty years, this Belgian quartet has built a unique reputation on the international circuit: a team that races first to experience something, and that always comes back with the best stories to tell.

At the center of it all is Daniel Masy. The only person in the world who have raced every edition of the Raid in France since its inception. Before that, he was already there, at the very origins of the sport with the Raid Gauloises, when adventure racing was laying the groundwork for this unique discipline. With twenty qualifying races and ARWS World Championships under his belt, the circuit inducted him into its Hall of Fame in 2024. A rare honor, reserved for those who have left their mark on the sport beyond the podiums. When he takes the starting line, he’s looking to have a good time and discover the world in a different way.
By his side, Marie-Hélène Thonnard, Frédéric Bovy, and Bernard Delvigne share the same philosophy: giving it their all, without taking themselves too seriously.

What Team Belgium embodies is a certain vision of adventure racing—the one that existed before world rankings and podium strategies. They race the way you’d set out on an expedition with friends: with dedication, curiosity, and the knack for turning every hardship into a story.

DIRT, FROM THE FAR REACHES OF ASIA

November 2025, Biliran Island, Eastern Visayas. In 53 hours and 20 minutes of nonstop racing through 300 kms of tropical jungle, steep ridges, rugged coastlines, and unpredictable rivers, Team Dirt made history: it became the first Filipino team to win an ARWS Asian Championship. A victory at La Routa Adventure Race, achieved on their home turf against international teams seasoned on the world circuit, is worth far more than just a qualification for their first world championship.

Dirt’s story is, above all, a team that started from almost nothing. Based in Tacloban City in Eastern Visayas, the team set out to demonstrate what a 100% Filipino team can accomplish when it has support. And they did just that! Erika Viojan, captain of the quartet, leads her three teammates with the authority of someone who grew up in an environment where endurance isn’t just a sport, but a way of life. Nick Aguilos, the navigator, is also an experienced climber and photographer, a versatile team member capable of reading the field in multiple ways and navigating through the complexities of a jungle course. Gil Penero Junior and Hienrick Velasco round out this close-knit team, forged through local competitions. Stifling heat, swollen rivers, steep mountains, and trails swallowed up by vegetation – these are all challenges that, over the years, have become their natural playground.

What sets Dirt apart is that they won without the backing of teams accustomed to major circuits. No corporate sponsors, no global track record – just four athletes who know each other inside and out and who have learned to turn resourcefulness into strategy. In Corsica, they’ll encounter a radically different field: dry, steep, and rocky. But those who knew how to navigate the Philippines jungle with a compass aren’t coming to Corsica just to get lost.

NOT KNOWN, BUT NOT SO UNKNOWN

November 2025, on the Fleurieu Peninsula in South Australia. A 36-hour race through wind-swept cliffs, native forests, river systems, and coastal wilderness. It was during the Total Recon that Not Known earned its ticket to Corsica by becoming the Oceania Champion. This victory came as only a partial surprise: Tim Boote’s team was expected to be among the favorites before the start, and they did not disappoint.

Behind this deliberately understated name lie four athletes with deep roots in the Australian adventure racing theatre. Tim Boote has first a background in team sports and later turned to multisport racing, which he has been practicing for years in the wild landscapes of Victoria’s East Gippsland – a region of dense forests, inland lakes, and unpredictable rivers that forge well-rounded racers. Augus Rodwell is one of the most familiar faces on the national circuit: a member of the Thought Sports team – the 2018 Australian champions – he is renowned for his paddling skills, capable of turning the tide of a race during the water sections in the final kilometers. Elly and Klayten Jackson round out this mixed quartet, seasoned veterans of the ARWS circuit’s formats and expeditions.
Together, they form a well-balanced team capable of maintaining a steady pace over the long haul.

What Not Known embodies is a certain Australian way of running: with simplicity and endurance built on long, isolated runs, a taste for challenging fields, and the quiet humility of those who have learned to navigate the unknown.

Ultimately, the team’s name will no longer be anonymous after their time on the Isle of Beauty.

SPORTOTAL, ARGENTINA’S PRIDE

In late November 2025, on the arid trails of Senillosa in Argentine Patagonia, team Sportotal completed the 300 km Ansilta XK Race Traverse after more than 38 hours of continuous effort across mountain biking, trekking, and kayaking. The victory earned them the ARWS South American Championship title and, in the same stroke, secured their ticket to the World Championship in Corsica.

This all-Argentine quartet is built around brothers Nicolás and Lucas Vallejos, who have been racing together for over twenty years and have accumulated podium finishes across the biggest races on the South American circuit. Florencia Delaporte has been part of the team for several seasons, a quiet cornerstone of a well-oiled unit. So has Edgardo González, who spent years racing against the Vallejos brothers under different colours in Patagonia. Together, the four form a tough and driven team, fuelled by that garra so dear to Argentine sport, determined to fly the Albiceleste flag all the way to Corsica. Before their Patagonian title, Sportotal had already claimed victory at the Desert Challenge in Chile, confirming a strong run of form that currently places them 11th in the ARWS world rankings. On the Patagonian course, their strength lay in consistency: leading from the second mountain biking leg, they stretched their advantage during the kayak section before holding firm through a hard-fought night trek, where the two brothers’ shared experience proved decisive. “The navigation was very demanding, which kept the race tight until the very end,” Nicolás said at the awards ceremony, underlining the intensity of a continental title and a World Championship berth snatched in the final leg. His brother Lucas, already looking ahead to the main event in autumn 2026, added: “We hope everyone will support us, and that we’ll do what it takes to be ready for the tough race ahead.” A statement that speaks volumes about their clear-eyed awareness that the hardest challenge is still to come, against the best teams in the world.

For Sportotal, Corsica will mark only Argentina’s second appearance at an ARWS World Championship. From the Andean desert to the rugged trails of the Island of Beauty, the change of scenery will be total; but the team arrives carrying twenty years of brotherhood between the Vallejos, ready to line up against the world’s best on September 27, 2026.

LANE4ADVENTURE, ICE COLD

In early September 2025, on Lake Saimaa, Lane4 Adventure completed the 250 km ARWS European Championship in 25 hours and 51 minutes, leading from start to finish. A continental victory on their homeland that secured their ticket to Corsica and confirmed what the European circuit had been anticipating for several seasons.

Brothers Jaakko and Ville Mäkelä have been racing together since their debut on the Finnish circuit, raised in the orienteering tradition of a country where reading a map in a dense forest is part of the national sporting culture. Two minds that share the same understanding of the field, capable of linking the most hidden control points without ever losing their way. Alongside them, Mikko Sakala is known for his endurance and his ability to maintain a high pace during long mountain bike transitions. Pauliina Pohja rounds out the quartet with a profile rarely seen in adventure racing: a seasoned trail runner and top-level navigator, she described the victory in Finland as “the fastest race she’s ever competed in, with many demanding stages,” which, coming from an athlete like her, speaks volumes about the intensity she’s capable of handling.

As they leave the Finnish wilderness for the wilds of Corsica, the new European champions aren’t making the trip to explore the island. They’re coming to see if their technical mastery, honed in one of the world’s most demanding navigation environments, can compete with the best teams on the planet.

2 CORSICAN TEAMS ON THE STARTING LINE

A World Championship held in Corsica could not come true without local representation.

To ensure the host region is fully involved, the organisers of the 2026 ARWC decided to award two special invitations to Corsican teams, in partnership with the Corsican Triathlon League. This unique opportunity has generated great enthusiasm among the island’s clubs. A selection process was held, at the end of which the league’s president, Sauveur Nicolas, named the eight athletes who will represent Corsica at this global event.

We are delighted to welcome Tafuna Matata and I Triatleti Corsi to the starting line on the 1st of October 2026 in Corte. For these two teams, the ARWC 2026 will be much more than an international competition. They will have the privilege of representing their island against teams from all over the world, on a land they know better than anyone else. For them, the adventure will not be a discovery; it will be a reunion with their own homeland.
