Corte: The Beginning of a Journey into the Corsican Soul

Getting to Corte, the capital of Central Corsica, is a journey in itself. You gradually immerse yourself in a region whose atmosphere is very different from the rest of the Isle of Beauty: more rural, perhaps a little rougher too, but profoundly moving. The people here adore their region; they are used to roaming the mountains, living to the rhythm of nature, and honouring local craftsmanship and their distinctive gastronomy.

We love this part of Corsica, which we have travelled extensively and where we have met unforgettable characters and discovered magnificent landscapes. Here is a glimpse in images…

A DREAM DESTINATION: CORSICA

A JourneY of 500 KM

From September 27 to October 10, 2026, Adventure Racing will cross the Mediterranean to settle in Corsica, the host land of the Adventure Racing World Championship. Designed with discovery in mind, the course will explore the Island of Beauty over a journey of approximately 500 km. Start city: Corte. Finish city: L’Île Rousse.

Between these two points, a non-stop expedition awaits in trek, mountain biking, kayaking, packrafting… traversing North to South and East to West across this unique land.

Bellow, an interview with Pascal Bahuaud, founder of the Back to Nature team in 2007, with which he organized 10 ARWS World Cups, 1 European Championship, and 2 ARWC World Championships.

What is the spirit of adventure racing?
Races of the Adventure Racing World Series circuit are created to encourage a maximum autonomy of the competitors. GPS devices are prohibited and replaced by maps at a 1:50,000 scale instead. Competitors will go through such magnificent landscapes that they will naturally adopt a preservation mindset. Raising awareness and fostering responsibility proves far more effective than strict access bans, int his sense, we believe that a careful and thoughtful use of natural spaces is far more efficient. This constant reflection on nature serves the design of the race as a genuine driving force.

Why is Corsica an exceptional set up for this World Championship?
We are preparing an authentic race that encourages a respectful exploration of the island’s natural territories. Our baseline, Back to Nature, reflects our desire for this immersive team expedition to stay true to the essence of non-stop adventure racing.

80 TEAMS EXPECTED

Eighty Teams Ready for the 2026 World Championship

Representing the world’s top adventure racing athletes from around thirty nations, 80 teams are expected in Corsica for the 2026 Adventure Racing World Championship (#ARWC2026). These mixed teams of 4 racers will set off on Thursday, October 1^st , from the town of Corte, tackling a non-stop course of almost 500 km with 18,000 meters of elevation gain, across trekking, mountain biking, kayaking, packrafting… The first finishers are expected to cross the line on October 6^th, at Paoli Square in the historic center of L’Île Rousse. The last teams will arrive two to three days later, completing an extraordinary adventure, shared as a team of four, in total immersion in the heart of Corsican nature.
